Rep. Tinderholt’s Statement

Representative Tinderholt’s suggestion that Ramadan is the most violent time of the year is not only factually false but also blatantly insulting to the Muslim community of Texas that uses Ramadan as time for spiritual reflection and personal growth through fasting and prayer.” said William White, Director of CAIR-Texas.“Every elected official has the right to express their sincerely-held religious beliefs, and we welcome that – but insulting and insinuating false information about another faith should be condemned.”

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims worldwide fast food and liquid from before sunrise to sunset and use the night to pray in congregation at their local mosque and break their fast with friends and family. All people are welcome to fast and observe Ramadan regardless of their faith.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
